Mission Statement
Jesus Grass Root Ministry Founded by Dr. Ovell Barber on August 26, 2021, Jesus Grass Root Ministry is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving those in need through the love and compassion of Christ. Our mission is to provide essential resources-including food, clothing, and shelter-to individuals and families facing hardship.
Guided by faith and a commitment to restoration, we also extend hope to the incarcerated through our prison ministry program, offering spiritual guidance, encouragement, and support for successful reintegration into society.

At Jesus Grass Root Ministry, we envision a world where no individual or family is left without the basic necessities of life-where hunger, homelessness, and despair are met with compassion, support, and restoration. Through the power of faith and community, we strive to be a beacon of hope, ensuring that those in need receive food, clothing, and shelter while experiencing the unconditional love of Christ.

Through our prison ministry program, we seek to restore dignity, faith, and purpose to those incarcerated, empowering them with the spiritual and practical tools necessary for a renewed life.

About The Founder of JGRM
Dr. Ovell Barber
Board Chair & CEO, Jesus Grass Root Ministry (JGRM)
Dr. Ovell Barber is a dedicated leader, scholar, and advocate committed to serving those in need through faith-driven action. As the Board Chair & CEO of Jesus Grass Root Ministry UGRM), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, he oversees efforts to provide essential resources-tood, clothing, and shelter-to individuals and families facing hardship. Additionally, he leads JGRM’s prison ministry program, offering spiritual guidance and support to the incarcerated.
Dr. Barber holds a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies and is a certified paralegal. He is also a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) and serves as a CPS Supervisor at Courage Medicine. In his role, he helps individuals navigate the path to recovery, empowering them through guidance, mentorship, and the principles of the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP 2) as a certified facilitator.
He pursued higher education at New Life Bible College and Seminary and Blackstone Career Institute. Residing in Philadelphia, PA, Dr. Barber is deeply passionate about music and enjoys playing the drums and congas in his free time.
